STREETS OF ZINE: ABANDONED SPACES

An important milestone of 2025 was discovering Indo-Islamic architectural styles of India for the first time! I'd just been accepted into the "StreetsOfZine: Abandoned Spaces," the timing was perfect.

I chose to depict an abandoned Indian fortress. Gathering inspiration from the Rajput dynasty, with their fortresses empowering and magnificent, I designed my own fortress. I modeled an existing monument, Charminar, for its strong verticality, and used this as a base to brainstorm more design choices. I also like how ancient structures consume the color palette of their surrounding environment overtime, and Rajasthan architecture exemplifies this exact principle!

Closing thoughts: This was an experimentative piece, trying out a luminous "Nathan Fowkes" color palette for the first time to blend the orange rock colors with the fortress. Unfortunately, I got so caught up in the intricacies of modeling a clean-look, that I skipped the original goal of creating a raw and "abandoned" fortress facade to match the surrounds. Until next time!

ORBIS: UZBEKISTAN

There's no ending to the overlaps in architecture and religion is there?
I discovered a new concept recently: a muqarnas is a stalactite or honeycomb-like ceiling style found mostly in Islamic mosque architecture. I tried this in Blender...then I was accepted into StreetsOfZine's debut artbook of the world, chosen to illustrate for Uzbekistan! Below is a proof-of concept for my future work.

GOAL: model/paint an Uzbekistani muqarnas when we start production in 2026!
